Photograph, slide and document digitisation

Cover photo - digitising

Isle of Man Collections Management is available for photograph digitisation

We can restore and preserve the images captured on your precious photograph prints, 35mm slides and negatives by scanning and saving them on DVD, USB or external hard drive.

Slides and negatives can deteriorate easily and attract mold and this can lead to precious memories or valuable imagery to being lost. Digitisation allow the image to be preserved forever and with the technology available the captured image, can if required, be colour corrected and the exposure adjusted.

Digitisation means no more messing about with an unreliable or bulky projectors, dodgy screens and helps save the images for future generations. Digitising will allow for easy access to your beloved memories or teaching aids and with the use of Laptops, Smart Phones and Tablets is a better way of sharing than passing around an old fashioned handheld viewer.

If required sideshows with captions can be created to allow you to share digitally with your friends and family whether at home or around the world.

Audio reel to reel and cine film digitation coming soon!

Digital images have the wonderful benefit of being easier to access and can be organised into multiple grouping for storage and easy location. Once digitized, the images be added to sideshows, power-point and websites at a couple of clicks of a button. For those who want to go that step further, metadata can be attached to the image to allow easy searching and organisation to make your slides as accessible as possible.

What is Metadata?

Metadata is informational data attached to a digital file or in this case an image which provides information about one or more aspects of the data; it is used to summarize basic information about the image which can make tracking and working with large numbers of images easy. It also allow for valuable historical information to be permanently attached to the image and can include location, date, names of people and so much more.

No additional software is required to view this information and just a quick demonstration and short instruction PDF will be all you need to learn how to use this data to your full advantage. If the slides are for academic use adding metadata can be an invaluable time asset for easy of access and image management.
